I use the Ricoh GR IIIx as my daily carry camera, the only modern digital tool in my practice. With its fixed 40mm-equivalent lens and APS-C sensor, the GR IIIx offers a deliberate, contemplative approach to everyday documentation that resists the algorithmic excess of smartphone photography. Its compact form and tactile controls encourage spontaneous street photography and observational work, while maintaining the intentionality and image quality of a dedicated camera. By choosing this contemporary tool for day-to-day shooting, I create a dialogue between my work with obsolete technologies and present-day imaging. The GR IIIx serving as both a practical instrument and a counterpoint to my vintage digital practice, grounding my hauntological explorations in the immediate, lived experience of the everyday.
